Short Description
The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is the designated nodal agency. It acts as a single-window system for all solar projects, facilitating land allotment, competitive bidding, and subsidy disbursement.
Objective
The Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy 2022 was implemented to transform the state into a leader in renewable energy, targeting an ambitious 22,000 MW of solar power capacity by 2026-27.
- To reduce dependence on fossil fuels and achieve an "optimal energy mix" for the state.
- To provide reliable and sustainable power to all residents of Uttar Pradesh.
- To create a conducive environment for private sector investment in solar energy generation and storage.
- To train 30,000 youth as "Surya Mitras" for the maintenance of solar plants, promoting local employment.
Benefits / Subsidy
State Subsidy: Residential consumers receive ₹15,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000 per consumer.
Central Assistance: This is in addition to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for residential rooftop installations.
Tax & Fee Exemptions:
100% Stamp Duty Exemption on land used for setting up solar plants or parks.
100% Electricity Duty Exemption for a period of 10 years.
Net Metering: Available for residential, government, and educational institutions.
Model Solar Cities: Ayodhya is being developed as a pilot model solar city, with 16 other municipal corporations to follow.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen and a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
- Must be a valid residential electricity consumer with a functional connection.
- Must own a property with sufficient and suitable rooftop space for installation.
- Should not have availed a solar subsidy previously for the same premises.
Documents Required
Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card (mandatory) and PAN Card.
Address Proof: Latest electricity bill (not older than 2 months).
Ownership Proof: Property tax receipt, sale deed, or house registry.
Technical Details: System design and specifications provided by the vendor.
Financial Details: Bank passbook or cancelled cheque for subsidy credit.
Photographs: Passport-size photo of the applicant and site photos after installation.
Application Process
Registration: Register on the National Portal for Rooftop Solar (PM Surya Ghar) using your mobile number and electricity consumer number.
Apply Online: Log in and submit the application for rooftop solar by selecting your DISCOM and entering the planned capacity.
Feasibility Approval: Wait for your local DISCOM to conduct a site inspection and provide technical feasibility approval.
Installation: Choose an empanelled vendor to install the system.
Net Metering: Apply for net meter installation after the system is set up.
Commissioning & Subsidy: Once the DISCOM issues a Joint Commissioning Report (JCR), apply for the subsidy via the portal. The amount is typically transferred within 30 days.
